Why I Design
I'm Athvik, and my story didn't start with a design screen, but with a toolbox. Since childhood, I've had a natural curiosity for turning waste into something useful—a habit that taught me the value of systems and innovation. While I went on to study mechanical engineering and become an expert at inspecting what was, my heart was always pulled towards creating what could be. That curious spirit found its true home the moment I witnessed the magic of design on a mobile screen.
That single moment was my compass, guiding me from the world of gears and blueprints to the boundless possibilities of UX and product design. Now, I blend a designer's empathy with an engineer's systematic thinking to transform complex problems into clear, elegant solutions. My engineering background gives me a unique advantage: an innate ability to understand not just the digital interface, but also the physical products and aspects that bring an experience to life.
Whether it's enhancing accessibility for a mobility app or streamlining a convoluted ERP workflow, I believe in making a meaningful impact. At my core, I've always wanted to help others in any way I can. I found that design gives me the power to do exactly that: helping people by solving their problems in meaningful, lasting ways. For me, design is more than aesthetics—it's about creating inclusive, purposeful experiences that improve lives and empower people.
My Passion in Practice
Design, for me, is not confined to screens or tools—it is a way of experiencing and interpreting the world around me. My everyday passions deeply influence my creative approach:
Nature exploration
Just like nature, my design philosophy is exploratory, adaptive, and effortless. Nature’s patterns remind me that the most intuitive solutions are often the simplest and most organic.
Cycling and Flow
Cycling teaches me the importance of balance, rhythm, and momentum—qualities I integrate into my work to ensure smooth user journeys and cohesive experiences.
Aquascaping and Harmony
Through aquascaping, I create miniature ecosystems that embody harmony, interaction, and life. This practice shapes how I design digital experiences: interactive spaces that breathe, adapt, and evolve with users.
Upcycling Creativity
Since my school days, I have been passionate about creating useful things out of waste materials. One of my early projects was a working vacuum cleaner built from a plastic bottle and RC car parts. Experiences like these taught me to see potential where others see waste, driving my focus on sustainable and resourceful design thinking.
Disclaimer: This was a school-day hobby project. My dad preserved it at home, and I recently rediscovered it while cleaning—reminding me of my early passion for creating from waste.
